This is a question to my fellow atheists. Would you date a religious person? I have tried, and I have found it to be almost insurmountably difficult. I dated a Southern Baptist for a little while, and to be honest, the only thing keeping me around was that she was...what's the genteel way to put this...really fucking hot, but the whole religion thing was what really killed it. I knew that she thought I was going to spend an eternity in hell, and she knew that I thought she was a delusional automaton. The last three people I have dated have all been atheists. Maybe I could date a Deist. But these days I steer clear of religious people if I am looking for anything a little more serious than random play.

It's all a matter of degrees, really. Could I date someone who is Christian? Sure, as long as it doesn't come between us and our relationship. Could I date someone who is Muslim? Same answer. If the faith of one individual is enough to override the feelings between the two, then the relationship is a poor idea, so I would steer clear of any such situations.
I'm going to go with Gaijin on this one. It's really tough, but if it's not like a huge thing, then sure.
With The Rooster, it's a huge thing.
I think TR feels about religion the way I feel about abortion, gay marriage, and stem cell research. I cannot see myself dating someone who's not pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, and in favor of stem cell research.
I'm passionate about those issues and I think that a person's stance on them (and how they've thought through their position) reflects on who they are as a person and whether they are right for me.
I also agree with Harley. I don't think I could date a hard-line republican just like I couldn't date a hard-line religious person.
yeah. im couldnt be with someone who thought i was going to hell and that my values were empty etc. but there is a difference between having a religion and being RELIGIOUS. there's also a difference between not believing in God and being an ATHEIST. so all in measure..
